Maybe you like to know a little bit about history of the ministry and what it is like. If so, you might like this part.
La Jolla Presbyterian Church has been in the community of La Jolla since 1905. When youth ministry started to emerge as a new ministry, La Jolla Presbyterian Church was very supportive of engaging students and teens in the context of a ministry area in the church. It was in 1971 that SunHouse was officially introduced to La Jolla.
The SunHouse was a small house on the corner of Eads and Kline in La Jolla and was given to the new youth pastor as both an office space and location for youth ministry. As the church grew, the SunHouse was eventually demolished to make way for the new parking structure and and administrative building. The students we blessed to take over the existing Fellowship Hall where the offices, kitchen, main room, and upstairs and downstairs program rooms now exist.
Many wonderful people have worked at SunHouse over the years investing in youth in the La Jolla area and teaching and telling them about Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This continues today. However, recently our position for Middle School director became vacant. Our previous director had worked in SunHouse for 5 years and felt God calling him into something new. We are sad that he has moved on, but realize that God has a plan for this ministry.
We are now excited to see where God is leading the Middle School ministry here at SunHouse and who God is planning on bringing here to invest in the lives of students so they can know and grow in a relationship with Jesus.
We currently have 6 people on staff in the Youth and Children's department. Mike is the Pastor of Youth and Children's Ministries, Alex is the Director of Outreach and Discipleship and works in both Middle and High School, Alyssa is the Program Coordinator and Administrative Assistant, Susie is the Children's Director, Jasmine is the Assistant Children's Director, Julie is the Early Childhood Coordinator, and Barbara is the Preschool Director.
